Once Again, No Plagiarism

Please Do Not Plagiarize. Honestly. I can't believe how many times I have to stress this. Since there are actually people out there who would not only steal my stories, but also blatantly lie to readers, claiming that I had given them permission to do so, I'd like to make a note here as well as on my fictionpress profile: I have never and will never give anyone permission to repost my stories on another site. Especially when they're changing the names of the characters. As if that's not fishy enough.

Is that clear enough? 

I believe I had already mentioned before in a prior blog post that I absolutely do not want other people to post my story up on other sites even if they say that they'll credit me. If I want the stories up on any other sites, I can very well do that myself, thanks. 

My deepest gratitude to the readers (special thanks to Sarah) who informed me about the wattpad plagiarist. Thankfully, with their help, this incident seemed to have been resolved before I even got home from the hospital today. I am so relieved. Frankly, I'm pretty tired after call and I really wasn't looking forward to dealing with this issue yet again. I'm so thankful that there are still awesome, conscientious readers out there who would take the time to actively help correct a wrong. You're the best.

    Hey there, I sent you a message on Fictionpress, but then I realized that reading through your profile--you may not have noticed it. On another writing website (Figment.com), there has been someone who has your same exact story posted up. The story is "False Facades." (No names have been changed, and the summary and title are also the same). I wasn't sure if you had posted this up, but I'm inclined to believe that this isn't you. Anyway, I've confronted this person, but haven't received a reply. I just wanted to let you know! The author's name is "GreekPrincess27." I hope this gets sorted out!

      Oh, for crying out loud. I think it might actually be the same girl who posted FF up on wattpad. I'm really not sure what is going on with this girl. Thanks for the notification. I'm going to try to get Figment to sort this out since it doesn't seem like she's much interested in doing the right thing and just not plagiarizing.

      No problem, the moment I saw it, I got suspicious. I confronted her about it, but I didn't receive any reply. Hopefully Figment does help you out with this! I hate to see good authors get plagiarized. I hope this plagiarizer does get reprimanded. I hope that this gets fixed!

      Been so busy with my clerkships, I haven't done any writing at all. Plus, with the repeated plagiarism ... not exactly great motivation. I'm thinking of editing FF once and for all for self-publishing and better copyright credits (ideally, I'd like to still keep the draft up on fictionpress). I'll see what happens.

    Honestly... I just don't get it. What's even the point of taking non-monetary credit for work somebody else did? Just... what is the point. I have people take credit for my art (and that's caused me to delete my art/move onto new accounts) and I never got that. It it worth that much to get reviews/notes for something you didn't do?

    Tumblr culture is reeeally good at this unfortunately. They post people's fics and art all the time without permission. That's why a lot of artists and writers practically force themselves to get tumblr, so as to build up a following and the knowledge that the work is THEIRS (though reposters will repost) on one of the most popular blog/whatever sites on the web.

      Too many times now. I don't get it either.

      Yeah, I think Tumblr seems cute for reposting pretty pics, but I feel like the credits can sometimes get bogged down by the masses until it's just a common mess.

      That idea of artists being forced to get tumblr is partly my reason for reposting and leaving FF up. I'd hope that there would be even less point for someone to plagiarize if I have the full copy around as proof (though as we can see, some stubborn fools insist on wasting their time). For some reason though, I have been getting a lot of messages recently asking why I haven't published FF yet haha, but I just haven't had the chance to edit it properly. Blah, medical school. As I mentioned before, ideally, I'd like to self-pub it for better copyright credits and so that I can maintain the draft on fictionpress for the readers.
